Cultural Coalition Awards Willowbrook Scholarships to Latino Students

For the fourth consecutive year, the Cultural Coalition of Washington County has awarded Willowbrook a grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust earmarked to help local Latino youth experience the arts during the 2012 season. Grants were awarded to 23 county organizations through a competitive process to address goals of the Washington County Cultural Plan. Grants will support projects including music, theater, dance, children’s programs, community cultural events, heritage, and art experiences. For more information, check out the Cultural Coalition of Washington County website.

Funds come from donations to the Oregon Cultural Trust and from the sale of license plates. A tax credit makes donations easy and a great deal! Give twice, pay once. Please help fund great cultural opportunities by donating today!

Welcome to the new Willowbrook website.

Last summer, I wrote the first lines of code for this site while I sat in Nurse Colleen's tent, resisting the urge to go out and explore one of my favorite places in the world. I've been going to Willowbrook as a camper, a teacher, and eventually a visitor every summer since I was 9 years old. Willowbrook is where my passion for creativity is grounded; the stage of some of my most cherished childhood memories.

It's extremely important to me to share this special place with you, whether you're a first-time visitor, a returning parent, a camper, or an alumnus. I want you to be able to experience Willowbrook in its own words. On the last few days of camp last year, I asked campers to ask their peers for quotes about their favorite activities and what makes Willowbrook special. You can learn about Willowbrook in their own words on the tour page.

While the experience will never quite be the same outside of Brown's Ferry park, I welcome you to share in Willowbrook's stories, photos, and best moments online. Hopefully, I'll see you around the basketry tent someday soon.

If you have any questions or comments, I welcome you to send us a note.

Max Goodman, 11-year camper and alumnus

Willowbrook in 2012

Welcome to Willowbrook!

The fact that you are reading this message demonstrates your desire to provide joy and enrichment to a child’s life. That is our mission, too. We are confident that the unique opportunities at Willowbrook will assist with this goal. We are launching this new website with the desire to more effectively meet your need to know who we are, what we offer, and how to access the program we provide.

2012 is a propitious Leap Year to also launch into the next three decades of Willowbrook. Our canvas is blank to paint as we are inspired, to affirm our creative impulses. We will open the summer with a cunning cat in boots, dance our way to Broadway, go adventuring with pirates, revel in Shakespeare’s comedic prose and celebrate America’s Roaring Twenties with Millie. Tents will overflow with everything needed to create that special work of art from clay, glass, paint, beads, reed, cloth, paper and a thousand other materials. The urge to sing, dance, play an instrument or become a great actor will be satisfied. We have stories and imaginations to share, and friends to share them with.

Thank you for taking this first step in joining us for the excitement!
